Thermocouple Assembly

A thermocouple assembly refers to the complete unit or package that includes the thermocouple sensor along with other components necessary for its operation and installation. It typically consists of the following components:

Thermocouple Sensor: The heart of the assembly is the thermocouple sensor itself. It comprises two dissimilar metal wires joined together at one end to form the sensing junction. The selection of the thermocouple type depends on the temperature range and application requirements.

Protective Sheath: Many thermocouple assemblies include a protective sheath or tube that surrounds the thermocouple sensor. The sheath is typically made of stainless steel, Inconel, or other materials that provide mechanical strength and protection against corrosion or harsh environments. It helps to shield the thermocouple sensor from direct contact with the measured substance.

Terminal Head: The terminal head is a housing or enclosure where the connection between the thermocouple and the extension wires takes place. It provides a secure and accessible location for electrical connections and can be made of materials like aluminum, stainless steel, or cast iron.

Extension Wires: The thermocouple assembly includes extension wires that connect the terminal head to the measuring instrument or control system. These extension wires are made of the same materials as the thermocouple wires, ensuring compatibility and accurate temperature measurement.

Mounting Fittings: Depending on the application, thermocouple assemblies may come with various mounting fittings to facilitate installation. Examples include compression fittings, bayonet fittings, or threaded fittings designed to secure the assembly in place.

Thermocouple assemblies are available in different configurations and designs to suit specific applications. They are widely used in various industries, including HVAC, manufacturing, process control, and scientific research, for precise temperature measurement in a range of environments.
