A multicore cord cable, also known as a multi-conductor cord cable or simply a multi-core cable, is a type of electrical cable that contains multiple individual insulated conductors within a single cable assembly. Each conductor within the cable can carry its own electrical signal or power, allowing for the transmission of multiple signals or power feeds simultaneously.
The construction of a multicore cord cable typically consists of the following components:
Conductors: The conductors are the individual metal wires within the cable that carry the electrical current. They are typically made of copper or aluminum and can be solid or stranded, depending on the cable's flexibility requirements. Each conductor is insulated from the others to prevent short circuits or signal interference.
Insulation: Each conductor within the multicore cord cable is individually insulated with an insulating material. Common insulating materials include PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), or other specialized insulation materials suitable for the specific application.
Shielding (Optional): In some multicore cord cables, individual or collective shielding may be present. Shielding is used to protect the conductors from electromagnetic interference (EMI) or to reduce crosstalk between adjacent conductors. Common shielding types include foil shielding, braided shielding, or a combination of both.
Outer Jacket: The entire cable assembly is covered with an outer jacket, which provides mechanical protection, durability, and additional insulation for the conductors and shielding. The outer jacket material is typically a robust thermoplastic such as PVC or a more specialized material suited for specific environmental conditions.
